Muni Market Day x Katha Upcycled Craft Workshop

So last last Sunday June 1st, Jen Horn and the rest of the Muni team organized an awesome event called Muni Market Day. It's a community event for conscious consumption and mindful living.

Muni asked us to have an upcycling craft workshop at The Grove Rockwell. Geli and I taught the participants how to make bags and bracelets out of old shirts (posted the tutorial here on my blog). I am sharing with you photos of our workshop!

Photos by Geli Balcruz of Katha Magazine :)

The girls of Katha Magazine :)

Our craft kits are ready!

There's Rea, Mae-Ann and Patrick. He loved the batman shirt.

Van and April - two awesome ladies who came all the way from Cavite!

The end product. Good job guys!

 Here are our lovely bracelets.

Outside were tents where you can shop, dine, and listen to live music.

And there's Jusa, KKK Coffee, Edgy Veggy, Lotus Pod and many more.

Too bad I wasn't able to see all the pop-up shops because I had to leave early. I really wanted to buy healthy food! Anyway, that is all for now. I am looking forward to having another craft workshop with Muni next time!! :)

Katha Magazine's Craft Workshop with Muni and Moonleaf

Hi guys! Let me share with you how my weekend went at Moonleaf. Muni has invited Katha Magazine to participate in The Better Closet and the launch of Muni x Moonleaf 2014 planner last November 16. It was a busy and tiring day, but all of us had fun!

There were a lot of good finds at The Better Closet. Lando was able to snag a nice wool jacket for P320. Such a good deal! Unfortunately for me, I used my money for shopping at Hallmark that day so I didnt get to buy clothes.

We set up our booth outside and we sold craft items like my pine tree candle holder, Allies stamped post cards, Dreas Merbirds, Gelis cute paper bags and Ayas scrapbooking paper. We were glad that we sold many of our items as 100% of the money we earned were for the people affected by the Typhoon Yolanda.

Aside from that, Katha also put together a free craft workshop. We made upcycled holiday projects, facilitated by yours truly :)

So what were the projects that we did? We made fancy snow globes out of glass jars, glitter glue and glitter powder

we also made pillow boxes from toilet paper cardboard tubes and scrapbooking paper

And finally we made magazine tassel garlands, which you can find my tutorial here. Cai from Moonleaf let us hang our masterpiece at one of their cork boards.

That was my first time to teach in a workshop and I was pretty nervous. But all is well! Im proud of what my students did!

My favorite student was Keisha, our youngest participant. She really loves crafting and didnt really need that much assistance! She got addicted to decorating her pillow boxes with washi tape :)

If you want to know how to make the craft projects that we did that day, dont worry! Im going to post the tutorials here on my blog ;) So stay tuned!

For the mean time, please do check out our catalog and participate on our online auction, Padayon. Just like our booth at Moonleaf, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Philippine Red Cross and it will definitely help the people affected by the typhoon.

Katha Magazine, together with Paint Some Happy, will hold an online auction to raise funds for the benefit of relief efforts aimed towards survivors of Super Typhoon Yolanda. The chosen organization is the Philippine Red Cross.
The auction will feature works of local designers and crafters who generously donated their works for the cause. The auction catalogue showcasing all works will be released on November 18, 2013, which will also mark the start of the weeklong online auction.
The target amount of the auction is a minimum of Php 15,000. One hundred percent (100%) of the proceeds will be turned over to the Philippine Red Cross.

A total of eighteen (18) donors provided their work for the auction. The donors were given the freedom to create an original and unique work. Hallmark Christmas Sale and Rockwell's Holiday Fair

My friend Allie told me about Hallmark’s Christmas Sale at Brixton Street in Kapitolyo. And since it was just a five minute walk from my place, I checked it out. And good thing I did, because holy hell I went crazy shopping for craft supplies at low prices!

This was my loot. I bought stuff for myself and also for the craft workshop that Katha Magazine was facilitating that day. (I’ll write about that within the week!)

Want to know what was on sale? Let me show you some of the items that I bought:

Rolls of paper twine for P2.00 each.

Folders and envelopes with printed pattern for P25.00 - 30.00 for a set of 2.

Cute polka dot paper bags from P6.00 to P10.00

Ribbons - I can’t remember the price for this but I’m pretty sure I did not exceed P8.00 a roll.

Bought these scrapbook paper for the craft workshop. The people couldn’t believe it when I got these for P15.00 for a set of 4.

And I also bought these solid colored scrapbook paper for P10.00. It’s basically P1.00 a sheet. Whaaat.

And I bought pretty gift wrapping paper that could pass as wallpaper for P20.00 for 3 sheets.

I expected that all my expenses would sum up to about P500+ but discounts were up to 90% off so my bill turned out to be P387.00 for 41 items. Happy!

The next day, I went to Rockwell’s Holiday Fair. That wasn’t my primary reason for going to Rockwell though, I had to do something for work on a Sunday. I also invited my family to go and start their Christmas shopping.

Anyway, I didn’t have enough money that day because I wasn’t really planning to do shopping. And even though I could just withdraw money from the ATM, I had to control my expenses. Haha! Here’s what I bought:

* A lavender infused pillow that says Reve (which means “dream” in French) and a tiny baby pillow doll from La Pomme. - P200.00, she gave the baby doll to me for free! How nice of her :)
* 20 sheets of beautifully designed wrapping paper sold by Paper Chic Studio - P160.00
* 65% Dark Chocolate made with cacao beans from Davao, from Malagos Chocolate. I’m planning to give this or the ones in can to my officemates as Christmas gifts. - P130.00
* And I bought washi tapes from Hey Kessy and Paper Blush. The washi tapes were at P75.00 each.
* Plus, I got a free post card and press flowers from Hey Kessy!

I spent a lot of stuff this weekend, but that’s okay because it made me so happy! Plus, it’s Christmas time! You gotta prepare your presents this early :)

Manila FAME March 2013

This is a pretty late post, but it's never too late to share something beautiful! I went to the last day of Manila FAME, which was from 14-17 March 2013. There are so many beautiful locally made products that were exhibited in the show but it's also sad to know that most of them are for export only.

I wasn't able to look around the whole exhibit, but here are some highlights of  the show:

Here's the exhibit by Kenneth Cobonpue and Hive.

Pillows designed by Inigo Elizalde. Look at the geometric patterns on the tables.

I just want to grab those pillows and bring them home.

Lamps designed by Wataru Sakuma. I asked the lady manning the exhibit if these lamps can be hung outdoors, unfortunately she said no.

Basilisa collection by Ito Kish

I love the different solihiya patterns on this screen.

The Millenial Home is an installation directed by designer Budji Layug that envisions the lifestyle of today's generation.

Vito Selma designed these hanging lamps that look like beautifully arranged feathers.

These are pillows adorned with coconut shells and mother of pearl. They remind me of reptilian scales.

Here's a collection of carved wood chairs by Betis Crafts. Betis, Pampanga is known for producing intricately carved wood furniture.

The booth of Masa Ecological Development Inc. (MASAECO). There's designer Wataru Sakuma at the back.

The lamp is made of moulded abaca pulp.

We saw cool lighting design by Feliix. The Crystal Light, an LED fixture, is composed of glowing crystal balls. These crystal balls are connected together using a magnets, so you can assemble them in any way you like.

Coral Light, another LED lighting fixture inspired by how corals reflect the rays of sunlight through the ocean.

At the second floor was this awesome installation by Van Gogh is Bipolar. It's a restaurant in Maginhawa, which I never got to try when I was still in the University. Maybe next time!

The collection of teapots remind me so much of Alice in Wonderland.

And there were so many shoes painted in white and hung all over the installation.

The show also featured local crafts and they even demonstrated how it was done. This lady is carving bamboo arches and is a local craft in Bulacan, especially done for their Singkaban Festival.

She has been doing this since she was young. She was taught by her parents, and now she is teaching her children how to do the craft.

It's such a bummer I wasn't able to see everything! Next October I should plan my trip for one whole day.
