What I Had For Breakfast

Lately I've been inspired by the talented kids of Masterchef Junior. I just had a marathon of the TV series last weekend which is why I my creative brain wanted to do something extra fancy for breakfast. Instead of the usual oatmeal or cereal, I made soft boiled egg on blanched asparagus, with baked tomatoes and herbed rice. I'm not a chef so please excuse the plating. I tried. Haha!

Next time I will try making this but instead of soft boiled eggs, I will cook poached eggs. Good luck to me!

What I Had For Breakfast

Good morning everyone! This post is long overdue, but here's what I had for breakfast (three weeks ago):

Baked baby potatoes, with eggs in capsicum slices. I got the eggy idea from my aunt's Facebook post. But instead of frying them on the pan, I baked them in the oven. Aaand I went a little crazy with the black pepper.

Anyway, if you add herbs like rosemary, it will go well with the potatoes. I hope you like this idea!

Deviled Eggs with Chicken Adobo

This weekend we decided to experiment with leftover Chicken Adobo and use all the easter eggs we have been making!

6 hard boiled eggs
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1/2 cup pulled chicken adobo
salt
pepper
paprika

Cut the boiled eggs in half lengthwise and scoop out the egg yolks. Place the egg yolks in a mixing bowl, add the mayonnaise, and mash them with a fork. Stir in the chicken adobo, salt and pepper. Place the filling in a zip lock bag and carefully pipe them on the egg whites. Or you can just scoop the filling with a spoon one by one.

Easter Egg Flower Fairies

For this project, I will show you how to make these cute Easter egg fairies.

Materials:
hard boiled eggs
green paper in 2 shades
colored tissue paper or crepe paper
glue
scissors
pen

For the grass, cut two squares: 2"x2" and 3"x3" using paper in two shades of green

Fold the squares three times and cut them into a leaf like shape. When you unfold the paper it should look like this.

Glue the grass at the bottom part of the egg.

Use about 5 sheets of 3"x4" tissue paper to make the paper flower. Click here for the full tutorial on how to make tissue paper pompoms. Glue the pompom on the top part of the egg.

With a Sharpie or any black pen, draw the face of the egg fairy.

Just wait for it to completely dry and you are done!

Crayon Resist Easter Eggs

We are so ready for Easter! For this post, I am going to show you a very simple technique that you and your kids can do: Crayon Resist Easter Eggs.

You will need:
- eggs
- wax crayons
- food coloring
- water

First you gotta boil the eggs. You don't want it to be in a sticky situation when you accidentally drop them, right?

Then prepare your materials. All you need are crayons and food coloring. I also placed kraft paper on the floor to contain the mess.

And then start decorating! My sister copied patterns from the book "Colors" by Alexander Girard.

After drawing the pattern with crayons, we dyed them in diluted food coloring. The wax from the crayon will resist the dye, and I think it looks nice when you use light colored crayons against dark colored dye.

For my design, I just drew dots clumped together at the bottom then the spacing gradually gets bigger as you go to the top.

Here's what it looks like after the dip dye

And here's another pattern based on Alexander Girard's design.

And we are done! I think this is one of the easiest ways to decorate easter eggs. I hope you like it! Watch out for more easter crafts and eggy recipes in the next couple of weeks :)

Decorate Your Easter Eggs with Rubber Bands

Today I experimented with acrylic paint and rubber bands to decorate our easter eggs. It did not come out as clean as I expected, but in the end I liked how they turned out. It's still worth blogging!

I just grabbed eggs in our fridge. It was a bit frustrating when I found out that our eggs weren't white. It's weird when your family tries to go organic.

For the first design, I wrapped the rubber bands first before painting them with gold.

Then I let the the gold paint dry by placing the egg on a shot glass or an egg holder.

For the next design, I painted the egg with gold first,

Placed the rubber bands,

Then painted another layer of acrylic paint. I removed the rubber bands one by one using a pair of tweezers.

What I didn't know was if you coat the egg with a thick layer of acrylic paint, no matter how long you wait for it to dry, the paint will still be elastic (like latex).

The paint stuck to the rubber bands that's why the results were a little bit messy.

But I enjoyed doing this craft project and I can't wait to make deviled eggs with these!

Happy Easter everyone!
